Tulum is most famous for its pristine beaches and the Mayan ruins on top of the cliffs. Most days are spent lounging on the beach, relaxing, swimming and enjoying the lazy Mexican atmosphere, while sipping on a frozen Margarita or a Corona. On hot days, there are always the hammocks. There are many cenotes around for swimming or cave diving all over the area: Xel-ha, Dos Ojos, Grand Cenote, Caleta Tankah… The ruins also have a nice evening show where it is all lit up. A day or more for a run down to Punta Allen is worth the time. As is a guided tour of the Sian Ka’an reserve, a day to Coba to visit the ruins there, the historical town Valladolid, famous temples of Chitzen Itza, a day of shopping in Playa del Carmen etc. Longer trips can be made to Merida, Isla Holbox to just name a few other places around.
